Rolling Stone Magazine is an entertainment magazine that focuses on primarily music, as well as pop culture and politics. Rolling Stone Magazine is read 60% by men and 40% by women. 82% of Rolling Stone Magazine’s readers are between the ages of 18 and 49. The readers of Rolling Stone Magazine tend to be well educated as 64% of their subscribers have at least some college education. A large array of products is advertised in Rolling Stone magazine. Most of the products tend to be consumer goods, a number of which are endorsed by a music or pop culture icon. The publisher assumes that the readers of Rolling Stone magazine are people that tend to be at the forefront of popular trends in aspects such as music and social life.
The Sony Ericsson advertisement featuring the model is from FHM Magazine. FHM Magazine is a British men’s lifestyle magazine that focuses mostly on attractive women and male oriented news and humor. Surprisingly, men only make up 66% of FHM Magazine’s total readership. 81% of FHM Magazine’s readers are under the age of 35. The readers of FHM Magazine are also relatively well educated as 78% of their readers have either medium or highly educated. The majority of products advertised in FHM Magazine are consumer goods. Companies sell products to FHM’s male dominated readership by using attractive women to sell their product. Many companies also try to demonstrate how their product will better the reader. The publisher assumes that the readers of FHM Magazine are primarily heterosexual males that are easily driven by pictures of attractive women. The publisher also assumes that their readers read FHM Magazine to take a break from their daily lives, therefore the magazine itself is not very serious in nature.
